PURCHASING CO ORDINATOR OR PACKAGING BUYER

£Experience Dependent + Christmas Bonus + 20 Days Holiday (Increasing with length of service)
Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 5pm / Friday 8:30am - 4pm

Our client is a highly established and respected flexible packaging specialist. With a strong track record of consistent expansion and long-standing customer partnerships, the business has built a reputation for being collaborative, agile and solutions-driven.

Working with international manufacturing partners across the Far East and Europe they are looking for someone with purchasing experience and a good understanding of flexible or rigid packaging. Previous packaging experience is important, although they will also consider candidates whose relevant knowledge has been gained in a related packaging, supply chain, estimating or commercial role.

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the successful candidate will manage day-to-day purchasing activity and work closely with overseas factories and internal Sales, Logistics and Quality teams. The level of responsibility will reflect the successful candidate's experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day purchasing activity with overseas packaging manufacturers.
• Obtain, review and evaluate quotations for new and existing products, with particular consideration given to pricing, MOQs and lead times.
• Place purchase orders and monitor progress through to completion.
• Support new product development and sourcing projects.
• Carry out cost analysis and identify potential savings or alternative sourcing opportunities.
• Maintain accurate pricing, supplier and purchasing information.
• Build effective working relationships with suppliers and internal departments.
• Work closely with Sales, Logistics and Quality to ensure customer and production requirements are met.
• Identify and resolve purchasing or supply issues in a timely manner.

Candidate Requirements:

• A minimum of two years' experience within purchasing, buying or a closely related packaging role.
• Experience working with packaging manufacturers or suppliers.
• Knowledge of plastic packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
• Experience within flexible or rigid plastic packaging.
• A good understanding of pricing, MOQs, lead times and production constraints.
• Strong numerical, Excel and organisational skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate information.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to manage priorities and work independently while contributing as part of a wider team.
• The confidence to build positive working relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
