Location: South Manchester
Salary: Up to £75,000, with flexibility for the right person from the cleanroom sector

We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a specialist business delivering full turnkey projects within highly technical environments.

This is a client-facing role where you will take projects from the early concept and design stages through to construction, working closely with the client, designers and wider project team to turn an initial brief into a deliverable, fixed-cost project.

The ideal person will come from a cleanroom / controlled environments background, although applications will also be considered from people with strong experience across pharmaceutical, healthcare, semiconductor or microelectronics projects.

You don't need to have come from a Design Management background, but you will need a good understanding of the design process, how to work with designers and how design, technical requirements, programme and commercial considerations all come together within a project.

You will manage projects through the different stages of development, working closely with clients to understand what they need and helping them understand the options available to them.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Taking the client's initial brief and developing it through the concept and design stages

• Working with clients who may not have a technical or design background, helping them understand the requirements, options and implications of different approaches

• Managing a team of designers and coordinating design activity

• Leading design meetings and working closely with internal and external design teams

• Taking projects from concept through to Stage 5 construction

• Developing layouts and solutions around the client's operational requirements

• Working towards a fixed project cost and keeping an eye on the commercial position throughout

• Managing the tendering process and supporting the project through the second-stage tender

• Coordinating project processes, programmes and schedules

• Managing RFIs, making sure the right questions are being asked and providing clients with practical options rather than simply requesting information

• Working with the project team to understand how M&E systems integrate within the overall design

• Managing communication between the client, designers, contractors and other stakeholders

• Keeping projects moving through each stage and ensuring design, programme and commercial considerations remain aligned

• Supporting the delivery of full turnkey projects through to construction

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager with strong technical understanding, good commercial awareness and the ability to work confidently across clients, designers and construction teams.

Ideally, you will have:

• Project Management experience within cleanrooms or controlled environments

• Alternatively, experience within pharmaceutical, healthcare, semiconductor or microelectronics environments

• A good understanding of design management and the design process

• Experience taking projects from concept through design and into construction

• Strong client-facing skills and the ability to manage a client's expectations and requirements

• Experience working with designers and coordinating design activity

• A good understanding of process flows and how technical environments need to operate

• An understanding of how M&E systems integrate within a project

• Strong commercial awareness and the ability to keep track of project costs

• Experience with tendering and second-stage tender processes

• A good understanding of project programmes, schedules and project processes

• The ability to manage RFIs and get to the underlying information required to progress a project

• Excellent communication skills and confidence leading design and client meetings

This is a role for someone who enjoys being involved from the beginning of a project rather than simply taking over once the design has been completed.

You'll need to be comfortable sitting with a client, understanding their initial idea, challenging and clarifying their requirements, working with designers to develop the solution and then taking responsibility for moving that project towards construction.

You don't need to be a former Design Manager, but you do need to understand how the design process works and be confident managing that process as part of your wider Project Manager responsibilities.

You'll need to be technically credible, commercially aware and confident enough to manage conversations with clients, designers and project teams.

Cleanroom experience would be highly desirable, but strong candidates from the pharmaceutical, healthcare, semiconductor and microelectronics sectors will also be considered.
