Job Description:

Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-established secondary school in Rochdale to recruit an experienced and dedicated Pastoral Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual who is committed to supporting young people, promoting positive behaviour, and helping students overcome barriers to learning.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students' wellbeing, attendance, engagement, and behaviour, working closely with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure students achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities

• Support the school's behaviour and pastoral systems across designated year groups.
• Build positive relationships with students to promote engagement, attendance, and achievement.
• Manage behaviour incidents effectively, using proven de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support for students requiring additional pastoral intervention.
• Work closely with teachers and senior leaders to identify and support vulnerable or at-risk students.
• Monitor student welfare, attendance, punctuality, and behaviour records.
• Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Previous experience working in a pastoral, behaviour, inclusion, or safeguarding role within a secondary school setting.
• A proven track record of behaviour management and successful use of de-escalation techniques.
• The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience supporting young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
• The confidence to challenge inappropriate behaviour while maintaining positive relationships.
• A genuine passion for supporting the educational and personal development of young people.
