Purpose of role:To perform, monitor and maintain the quality assurance of risk management

Delivery of tailored outdoor activity programs which contribute to the development goals of the school and pupils.

To be an advocate for the school’s vision and values, seeing and demonstrating its use as paramount to the success of our young people.

Lead on development of the Outdoor Education offer within Mill School Bury

Working with: The SLT and colleagues employed at the school, parents and carers

Main Roles and Responsibilities

• To attend planning meetings and write short, medium and long term planning and preparation of lessons.
• To prepare and deliver safe and impactful lessons to pupils across the school for all KS2 and KS3 pupils with a group of KS4 options pupils, expecting to be regularly in challenging outdoor environments
• To enhance the pupil’s learning by designing a cross curricular integration plan for outdoor education
• Help pupils make progress through a range of national governing body qualifications
• To support the staff team in their subject areas to instil an LOTC culture within the setting
• To supervise a TAs, HLTAs and other instructors within outdoor education and horticulture and promote a safety-first environment
• To develop bespoke weekly/daily interventions for allocated pupils utilising skills in forest schools
• To attend school events and engage with pupils and parents/carers at during and out of regular school hours
• To establish relationships with other professionals or agencies to support the work of pupils
• To support the group with recruitment, induction, training, assessment and monitoring staff working within the outdoor education and horticulture department
• Set up systems for recording training, qualifications of staff within the outdoor education department areas
• Write a school development plan for the continuing growth across Outdoor Education.
• Produce and present budgets in line with capital expenditure
• Design a system for tracking all equipment across the subject area including monthly maintenance and logs.
• Write and periodically review Risk Assessments and Operating procedures for adventurous activities using the plan, do, act, review process
• Standardise and implement systems and processes across the group for outdoor education.
• Expect to work potentially extended hours, overnight on expeditions and camps at key points in the academic year.
• Plan and deliver comprehensive staff training for ‘in-house’ signoffs and National Governing body qualifications.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of outdoor education
• Deliver capital improvement projects
• Continue to take part in training relevant to the job role
• Establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with pupils, staff, suppliers and governing bodies
• Lead on gaining quality marks such as, eco schools, BC provider, LOTC quality mark, NICAS centre
• Keep up to date and implement current best practice across the group
• Lead and develop a safety-first culture
• Lead with strong project management skills
• Act as a form tutor with a group throughout the academic year

General Care and Support

• To provide levels of care and support appropriate to the general needs of the pupils and those as outlined in their Statements of Special Educational Needs and their Care Plans.

• To maintain good order and discipline among the pupils through following the Mill School Management of Behaviour Policy’ and safeguarding their health and safety.

• To establish appropriate professional relationships with the pupils.

• To display levels of personal behaviour which will provide an appropriate model for the pupils.

Other Activities

• To support social times by attending allocated duties
• To ensure safe and effective administration of medication after training
• To communicate and consult with the parents/carers of pupils
• To complete other duties as necessary to ensure the continued success of the school
• To attend staff meetings and contribute to the development of the school
• Attending assemblies, registering pupil whereabouts as well as supervising pupils, whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after school hours
• To lead offsite activities and visits before, during or after school hours when required including residential visits
• To participate in the transporting of the pupils as a driver and / or escort on educational visits/home visits and trips

Administration, Assessment, Reports and Meetings

• Monitoring, evaluating and feedback on pupils’ participation and progress.
• Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils
• Contributing to the maintenance of pupils records, maintaining accurate records/data reporting on the progress made by pupils
• To prepare pupil reports/ school support for and participate in Annual Review meetings with parents and other professionals in order to support the monitoring and development of the child where appropriate.
• To attend for the, or with the pupil at external agency meeting as requested by the Senior Leadership Team, preparing the necessary reports

Induction, Training, Development and Review

• Participating in arrangements for your own induction, supervision, training and development.
• Undertaking qualifications deemed necessary by the line manager to fulfil the requirements of the post.
• Reviewing your own methods of care, support and practice, including self-reflection and wellbeing.
• Participating in your own performance management arrangements and those of others, as appropriate.
• Participating in the safeguarding of all the children, and ensuring that the Mill School Child Protection Policy is adhered to. Ensuring the confidentiality of all pupil and school information and data.

Cover

• Supervising and, so far as practicable, covering for other staff if they are absent.
• If required, to ensure the delivery of learning/ supervision continues to take place in the absence of teaching staff as directed by SLT

Support the curriculum by: 1. Any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post, subject to the proviso that any significant, substantial or permanent changes shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.

Other Ad-hoc Duties

• To complete other duties as necessary to ensure the continued success of both the school and the Kedleston Group
