CDM Principal Designer

A growing construction safety consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced CDM Principal Designer to join their expanding team in Manchester.

The successful CDM Principal Designer will become part of a specialist consultancy with an excellent reputation across the construction and property sectors, working alongside an experienced team of Health & Safety and Building Safety professionals.

This is an excellent opportunity for a CDM Principal Designer who wants greater autonomy over their projects, exposure to a varied client base and a clear route for progression within a consultancy that continues to grow across the UK.

The CDM Principal Designer Role

The successful CDM Principal Designer will work across a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, healthcare, education and mixed-use developments, supporting clients and design teams from the earliest stages of design through to construction.

You will undertake the Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015, reviewing designs and identifying foreseeable risks while ensuring clients, designers and contractors understand and discharge their responsibilities.

The role will include:

• Acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015
• Advising clients, designers and project teams on their duties under the Regulations
• Reviewing designs and coordinating the management of design risk
• Applying the General Principles of Prevention throughout the design process
• Preparing and reviewing Pre-Construction Information
• Reviewing Construction Phase Plans and associated CDM documentation
• Undertaking site inspections and producing clear, practical reports
• Liaising with Architects, Engineers, Project Managers and Principal Contractors
• Preparing and coordinating Health & Safety Files
• Supporting clients throughout the full project lifecycle

The Successful CDM Principal Designer

The successful CDM Principal Designer will ideally have:

• 5+ years' experience within construction Health & Safety / Principal Design
• Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent
• Membership of APS and/or IOSH
• CMaPS, CMIOSH or working towards professional accreditation
• Previous consultancy experience would be advantageous
• Strong client-facing and communication skills
• The ability to manage your own projects and workload independently
